For leaders, entrepreneurs and public figures who are already excellent at what they do, and want to be read that way in the first half second.
It was the early 1970s, and I was working at Bloomingdale’s on 59th Street in Manhattan. A woman walked in, looked around at the mannequins and displays, and asked me that question.
Fashion had been my whole life since childhood. I had no idea how to answer her.
That question followed me to my dream job as a stylist at Vogue Patterns. We toured a one-woman fashion show around the country, with a different model in each region wearing the same outfits. Some of those women came to life in the clothes. Others faded into the wallpaper. The clothes never changed. So what was I seeing?
The answer arrived when I was asked to dress Joan Holmes, head of The Hunger Project, for an important event. She handed me a fan of fabric swatches and said, “Here are my colors.” I looked from her face to the swatches and back again. They looked exactly like her.
Suzanne Caygill was the originator of Color Harmony Theory, the foundation of seasonal color analysis. I met her at the Beverly Hills Hotel wearing a royal blue jacket, an acid green blouse and a shocking pink cummerbund from India. She arrived in a matching peridot pillbox hat, dress and gloves.
After the interview, she told me my fashion background was a liability. “I work with the essence of the person, not their image,” she said. She would not accept me into her academy.
By then I’d had my own colors done ten times by other professionals, and every palette was different. When Suzanne finally did my palette, it was the first time I felt truly seen. A few months later she agreed to teach me. I spent the next year training with her and helped her produce three color academies before I struck out on my own.
This work is about accepting the truth that we are each perfect as we are.
In about half a second, the people you meet read your signal: your colors, your contrast, the way everything you wear works together. They decide whether you’re the expert or the newcomer, whether to lean in or wait and see.
My work is to make that signal true. I read the colors already present in your hair, skin and eyes, the Sacred Triad, and build them into a personal palette, your Color DNA. When you wear it, your outside tells the same story as your inside. That coherence is what people experience as presence, and it’s why clients go from blending in to magnetic without becoming louder.
Underneath the business results is something deeper. Harnessing your beauty means harnessing your personal power and your self-expression. It’s closer to sacred than frivolous, and it’s the reason the results follow.
Your coloring isn’t something to work around. Mother Nature already designed your palette. My job is to reveal it.
They don’t follow fashion, so they don’t go out of style. I recommend a check-in every five to ten years as a refinement, never a redo.
Your Power Color for leadership, your eye color for trust and negotiation, your skin tone for connection, your Support Color for teamwork.
Before we meet, you send me photos so I can begin to see your coloring.
In person or virtually. I read your hair, skin and eyes alongside your essence, and we talk through what I see and what you want your presence to do.
As a beautiful book of swatches: your exact colors, organized by purpose, in a form you’ll carry every time you shop.

My mother opened a fabric store in Hibbing, Minnesota, called the Calico Cat. I grew up surrounded by color and cloth, the only girl with five brothers.
When I was about six, I stood in front of the house she had designed and thought she had never looked more beautiful. Years later I understood why. The weathered pink brick was a deeper value of her skin. The sage green door was the color of her eyes. The pink azaleas were her romantic color. She was standing in her own palette.
I’ve spent my life helping people do the same.
The first step is a short conversation with my team about your goals.
